Apple’s iPhone sales in China fell 24% in the first 6 weeks of 2024. Apple is facing a difficult environment in its key market China. Apple started offering subsidies on some iPhone models in the country last week, as the overall smartphone market in China has shrunk by 7%.

Apple fell to fourth place in terms of Chinese market share, up from second place in the same period last year. Apple’s main local rival is Huawei. Huawei saw a 64% increase in unit sales in this period. Huawei has increased sales of premium smartphones since releasing its Mate 60 series last year which had 5G connectivity.

Apple had almost taken the market share, Huawei took that place as its market share increased to 165. The American company has suffered losses due to strong competition from domestic Chinese competitors.

Apple had offered discounts on its official sites only last month. Huawei has struggled for years with US government-imposed restrictions, but the sale shows it finally sees a way out of the trouble.
