Today is the 554th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Ji. Devotees participate in the langar on Guru Nanak Jayanti at Gurdwara and give food to everyone.
Guru Nanak Ji is considered the first Guru of Sikhism. Guru Nanak ji had established Sikhism. He was born in a Hindu family on 15 April 1469 in Nankana Sahib, which is today a part of Pakistan.
Guru Nanak Ji family
Guru Nanak’s father’s name is Mehta Kalu, his mother’s name is Mata Tripta and his children’s name is Sri Chand and Lakhmi Das.
Guru Nanak Ji learned Hindi and Sanskrit at the age of 7. By the age of 15, he had become the most knowledgeable and educated person in his surrounding state. He also knew weapons and spirituality by the age of 16.
Why he traveled on foot
He traveled on foot to spread his message to Baghdad, Sri Lanka, and Central Asia to spread the teachings. His last visit was to Mecca and Medina, the holiest sites of Islam, where he preached the unity of God.
What Guru Nanak Ji believed
He accepted people of all religions as his disciples. He believed that all religions are one and God is also one. Guru Nanak Ji is also known as a good warrior, philosopher, writer, and poet.
When Guru Nanak Ji died
Guru Nanak died at the age of 70 in Kartarpur, Pakistan on 22 September 1539.
