Messi has scored in each of Miami’s five games. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, who last year captained Argentina to victory in the World Cup, is still unbeaten with Miami, winning each of the first five games of the League’s Cup, a tournament between MLS and Mexico’s top league. The next test for Messi with his new team will be a semifinal game on Tuesday against either Philadelphia Union or Mexican club Querétaro.
Charlotte employed almost all of her strategies to prevent him from scoring. Joseph Martinez and Robert Thomas also scored goals for Inter Miami, while Messi self-inflicted another goal in the last seconds of the second half owing to his pressure. Messi then supplied a precise finish in the final seconds.
The South Florida sports scene was crowded even that night, suggesting that the team may be close to another sellout at the 22,000-seat DRV PNK Stadium. Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro was in charge of the pro-am league championship game in a busy high school arena while the Miami Marlins hosted the New York Yankees and the Miami Dolphins were playing their home opener. Fans were once again overjoyed with the new pink number 10 jersey, and Messi’s enthusiasm was clear.
The life that Inter Miami followers were once accustomed to prior to the Messi era is now a far cry from that Prior to Messi, Inter Miami had won five of its 22 MLS games. Inter Miami is currently just two victories away from bringing home the League’s Cup after winning all five of their games with Messi. A superb short pass on the left side of the box gave Messi his first good opportunity in the 30th minute, when he found himself about 6 yards away. Cristian Kahlina, the goalkeeper for Charlotte, stopped his shot, preserving the score at 1-0.
Nobody was aware that Inter Miami already possessed all the necessary attacking talent. Another fantastic opportunity presented itself in the 69th minute when Messi passed to Taylor, received it back, and then shot from only 12 yards out as he evaded the defenders in the box. Messi could only raise an eyebrow and smile a little bit.
