Israel accelerated its process in Rafah after Palestine resolution passed in UNSC

On May 10, 177 countries voted in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the Palestine resolution, in which 143 votes were in favor of Palestine, while 9 countries opposed it and 25 countries abstained from this voting.

The objective of this resolution was to include Palestine as a member of the UNSC. From September 2024, Palestine will be able to sit among the UNSC members in the Assembly Hall but will not have the right to vote on any UNSC resolution.

With this voting, Palestine has not yet become a permanent member of UNSC Palestine has only qualified to become a member of the UNSC.

After Palestine resolution President Mahmoud Abbas said that the passing of the resolution shows that the world is with the rights and freedom of the Palestinian people.

The protesting countries included America,Israel and etc, while India voted in favor of Palestine.

After the voting, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, said that a terrorist state was being promoted.

Before the voting, Palestine’s Ambassador to the UNSC, Riyad Mansour told all the countries to vote in favor of Palestine. He had appealed that one of your vote will give us freedom in times of war.

This is Palestine’s second attempt to gain membership in the UNSC. Earlier in 2011, voting was held in the UNSC for Palestine membership, but at that time America had veto the proposal.

The resolution that has been passed considers Palestine eligible to join the UN but does not give it permanent membership. UNSC cannot give full membership to Palestine, but it will give Palestine some special rights.
