Ruchira Kamboj: Fiercely Targeted The United Nations Security Council

India with United Nations Security Council

India has been demanding reform of the United Nations Security Council for many decades, but Western countries and China are ignoring this demand. The Indian Ambassador to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj, strongly criticized these countries. The United Nations, formed after the Second World War, is still dominated by five permanent members: America, China, Russia, France, and Britain.

Despite the long-standing demand of many countries of the world including India, no action is being taken on the reforms of the United Nations Security Council. Over the years, many new powers like India, Germany, and Japan have emerged and permanent members like France and Britain have declined, but till now no solution has been found to India’s demands.

The United Nations was established after the Second World War with the aim of maintaining global peace and stability in the world. Among the 15 members of the Security Council, there are five permanent and 10 non-permanent members. Among the permanent members, America, Britain, France, China, and Russia have veto power, and they stop any proposal easily.

India has been claiming permanent membership in the United Nations for many years. Many countries have also supported it, although China does not want India to be included in the permanent list of countries. China wants to be the only country in Asia that is a member of the Security Council. For this reason, China continuously creates obstacles in India’s path through itself and other countries, including Pakistan.
